El Teatro Playback fue fundado en 1975 en el Valle Mid- Hudson en Nueva York por Jonathan Fox con Jo Salas y otros miembros de la compañía original de Teatro Playback. Desde entonces, ha llegado a cientos de escenarios y lugares y ahora es practicado en más de 60 países. La Red Internacional de Teatro Playback (IPTN) es una organización que brinda apoyo y proporciona conexión e información a practicantes de Playback en cinco continentes.
